Peter Lüthy was a part-time staff member at the Microbiological Institute at the ETH Zurich starting in 1987. Main occupation: Consultancies within his own company -Agro-Bio and Environmental Technology- He was given the title of Professor in 1987 He retired in 2003.



Prof. Lüthy's academic career began with a degree in agricultural engineering (Dipl. Ing.-Agr. ETH). He completed his Ph.D. in 1967 at the Institute of Microbiology of the ETH Zurich. From 1967 to 1970 he worked as staff member at the Insect Pathology Research Institute in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Canada. Back in Switzerland at the ETH , he headed from 1970 to 1987 a group which performed basic research on -Bacillus thuringiensis-. During this period, he completed his habilitation, and was given the title of Professor in 1987. The teaching of Prof. Lüthy emphasized fundamental methods in microbiology, microbial ecology, and microbial control of pest insects.
